Pope Joan

A non-historical comedy. Two acts. Three men, three women.

Premiere 1984, directed by Cynthia Grant, Nightwood Theatre, Toronto.

Nominated for the Chalmers Canadian Play Award.

Pope Joan is a madcap comedy, to be played in an exaggerated manner at a very fast pace. It is the story of the legendary Pope Joan of the 9th century, who dressed as a man in her youth and was unmasked only when she became pregnant.
